Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for your comments. Many managers have had to take pay cuts and have been downsized due to the economy. It will be interesting to see how managers fare at the end of 2010, with so much happening in healthcare I would hope that employment and pay is improved.

Best wishes,

Mary Pat

Seems that it this economy the trend in NY is to keep downgrading the pay, not the responsibilities. From 2007 when I was "reorganized" out of a hospital group at $112k and kept an underling at much less to add that to her menu of responsibilities.

Then a hospital took over ownership of a large practice and paid $87k to get it running down from a previous manager's $100k+ and I would be curious to know what the next manager got (they were having financial problems).

Next a large multi-group practice picked me up for $85k to let people go and then let me go and kept an insider who made less (did likewise with other upper-level managers).

Tried a no-insurance, cash-only, sound private group for $75k with plans to expand and they canned the plans and me and hired an "Office Manager" with no credentials and less than my 20+ years of experience for the Office for much less.

Tried a Federally funded Community Health Center for $65k and the CEO was sorry to have to ask to lower that to $50K after a few months (govt funds were coming in too slow to cover payroll).

All this from the end of 2007 to now in an attempt to keep paying the mortgage which is significantly more than unemployment insurance!

There may be Health Care jobs out there but it seems to me that there are many less managerial positions and a merry-go-round of same jobs being offered for less to do more.
