Hi Rebecca,

Excellent follow-up point. It's great to try and get patients rescheduled, if they still need to see the provider, and also to find out why they weren't able to keep their appointment. It always surprises me when patients call for a same-day appointment and then no-show. Does that mean another practice was able to get them in even sooner? What do you think?

Best wishes,

Mary Pat

Great tips as always Mary Pat. One of my practices uses a simple method when patients call to cancel an appointment by asking the patient how they can help them get the care they need as soon as possible. This encourages a reschedule quickly instead of just a cancellation.

Recalls are a big part of scheduling follow up and having a system to track patients who need to come back for a visit is a great way to keep scheduling more organized.

I just love that happy baby picture....

Warmly,

Rebecca

Hi Elayne,

You are right - it is a moving target! One of the things that can complicate the issue is how flexible the physician is when the schedule is less than perfect. If s/he can roll with the punches, even a rotten day can be handled by everyone.

BTW, nice website!

Best wishes,

Mary Pat

We have tried many of your suggestions but it is a moving target. We either under schedule (patients don't show or visits go faster than planned) or we over schedule (problems are bigger than anticipated, doc runs late from surgery). We never seem to have the right number of patients. It is frustrating but we will keep trying.
